Guanajuato wins the Railroad Merit Award

CDMX.- On Wednesday February 15th, during the XVI edition of the “Exporail 2017” Congress, Miguel Márquez Márquez, Governor of Guanajuato, received the “Railroad Merit Award (Premio al Mérito Ferroviario), due to the significant support provided to this industry, in order to preserve the railroad infrasturcture in Guanajuato maintaining the state railways in the best possible condition.

“Exporail” is a prestigious exhibition and international business meeting relative to the railway industry in Mexico.

This year it also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the railway operations concession to the private sector in México.

“After 20 years, the railroad is positioned as a fundamental means of transportation, and vital element in the development of our state’s economy”, Márquez Márquez emphasized.

The governor of Guanajuato said: “We are talking about a significant economic impact of 200 million dollars, through exportations and importations, with the participation of the main sectors such as the automotive industry, food industry and metal-mechanics.

These sectors have allowed our state to register an amazing growth”, added the state official.

In that sense, Miguel Márquez Márquez highlighted the investments made by Toyota, Mazda, Honda and Volkswagen, among others, as well as the consolidation of the tourism sector, positioning the state on sixth place nationwide in economic impact.

Márquez Márquez concluded: “Despite the train robberies in Guanajuato, we still have a remarkable growth. However, we have taken urgent actions to reverse this regrettable situation, implementing a very succesfull special security operation in collaboration with the Coordination Group Guanajuato (Grupo de Coordinación de Guanajuato), for the prevention of thefts”.
