On Tuesday August 8 the doors of the Bajío Aquarium were opened at Altacia Mall, in León Guanajuato.

This project “brings the ocean” to 15 million people in the geographical center of the country, with more than 300 marine species.

Guanajuato governor Miguel Marquez Márquez, director of the Blau Life business group, Alejandro Nasta Icaza, and Aryba group Eduardo Arena Barroso executive, cut the ribbon during the inauguration ceremony of this new marine, educational and recreational enclosure.

“The sea has reached the Bajío”, with more than (50) themed exhibitions, modern world-class facilities and extensive technology, an innovative concept of education and entertainment that allows visitors to interact with the wonders of the marine world, and experience environmentally friendly lifestyles”, Nasta Icaza said.

He emphasized that in addition to the great tourist offer of Guanajuato, this aquarium promotes responsible recreation and family coexistence, seeks to generate unique experiences in children and adults that motivate them to adopt measures for the conservation of ecosystems.

The representative of Blau Life announced the arrival of a shark that will be in a one million-liter water tank, and mentioned that more than 60 marine biologists are in charge of this facility that will host in the next months black tip and white tip sharks, along with dozens of other species such as ajolotes and even penguins.

The governor stressed that the Bajío Aquarium is an attraction not only for the state but for the entire region.

“They said the only tourist attraction that Guanajuato lacks, is a beach… but now we already have a little piece of the ocean right here!” he said.

“It is a space for recreation, but also to learn about coexistence and respect for nature, where all children will want to go”, said Mayor Héctor López Santillana.

Márquez said that there will be free addmission and special prices for low income families and children from rural areas of the state, which otherwise would not have the possibility of being near a shark, a stingray, or any other marine creature, because the Bajio Aquarium is a Socially Responsible Company.
