The state delegate of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Israel Cabrera Barrón, announced that the office under his charge has been able to evaluate a total of 13 projects for solar energy and wind power industrial parks.

“These industrial parks are mostly located in San Felipe and San Luis de la Paz, these are the areas of greatest radiation for solar energy, and this will allow us to start developing a big number of parks, with a surface of more than 700 thousand hectares” he said.

He also noted that at least 10 other renewable energy generation projects were presented to the State Delegation of Semarnat.

“Making a rough estimate of how much electrical energy could be generated through these parks, if these projects are done, we calculate that the state of Guanajuato could position itself in the third place nationally as a producer of clean energy” he stressed.

He said that the energy projects in the state could attract a large number of suppliers and installers that would leave a significant economic spill.

10 additional projects have expressed interest in Guanajuato, but the state delegate said that they are still missing to comply with the corresponding environmental conservation assessment.

“They are all looking for properties around San Felipe, San Luis de la Paz, a little bit towards San Diego de la Unión. These are the municipalities that they are considering most for solar energy projects “he commented.

Finally, Cabrera Barrón considered that if all this type of clean energy generation projects are materialized, greenhouse gas emissions will be largely reduced.
