Mobile Library Rollout

For several years, The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende has worked closely with Casa – The Centro para los Adolescentes de San Miguel de Allende,  which runs a number of impressive programs, mostly related to women and children in the villages. One of these programs is a library service which was first established in the year 2000 in colonial Santa Julia.

Each day lots of children in San Miguel visit this library. Back in 2007 it was decided to establish small rural libraries to be located in some schools in the more vulnerable areas of San Miguel, Dolores, and San Luiz de la Paz.   A total of 15 libraries were established in the compo.  In order to reach more young children ages 4-5,  with the goal of promoting the joy of reading, the idea of creating a mobile library was fostered in 2013.

By 2017, the mobile library became more than just an idea.  It became a working blueprint for an actual physical vehicle fully developed in a cooperation between CASA and Midday Rotary.  In 2018 a modern, well equipped mobile library was delivered and on Sep. 7 the mobile Library was inaugurated at CASA.
