Students of the Technological University of Aguascalientes (UTAGS) developed an application that provides the user an itinerary with detailed information about tourist sites located in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.

Jesus Daniel Marin Ruvalcaba and his team won first place in the ‘Hackathon’,  part of the Switch 2015 competition, which promotes business ideas in Latin America.

“I think the main challenge was to stay awake to design and complete the application before the time limit,” Marin Ruvalcaba said. He added that it took 52 hours of continuous work to finish the project.

The app promises to stroll among the cobbled streets of San Miguel de Allende, to know the location and distance of a wide variety of hotels, restaurants, markets and tourist attraction areas.

The tool informs the user the exact location of the sites and allows consultation of the reviews by previous visitors.

“By obtaining the opinion of tourists it facilitates users to improve customer service quality and help attract more vacationers and visitors statewide and in San Miguel de Allende in particular,” said Marin Ruvalcaba.

He announced that he and his teammates will refine the application so that it can be used in other tourist destinations within the country.

“In Mexico we have many places that domestic and foreign tourists should know about, this is where technology can greatly help the tourism industry,” he concluded.
