From October 14-16, Querétaro will host the Third National Pueblos Mágicos Fair 2016, announced the state governor, Francisco Dominguez Servién, accompanied by Federal Secretary of Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero, as part of the Tianguis of Guadalajara.
The Fair will gather in Queretaro Congress Centre the 111 magical towns that exist in 28 Mexican states, including five in Queretaro: Bernal, Cadereyta, Tequisquiapan, Jalpan and San Joaquin. The aim is to provide a space to show their culture and its main attractions, as well as offering a platform that allows them to interact with the most important tourist service providers in the country, tour agencies and national media.
During the announcement at the Expo Guadalajara, Dominguez Servién said that, this time, the theme of the meeting is “Tourism for all, promote accessibility” and an influx of 30,000 people is expected during the three days of the event. He assured Queretanos will welcome everyone with their characteristic hospitality.
“We will be a warm venue for the tourism industry. Visitors to the fair, service providers, agencies and national media will live experiences without limits” he said.
He also stressed that tourism is a strategic axis of his administration to promote the integral development. He explained that this sector participates with 19% of state GDP and employs 51 thousand 615 people. In 2015, Querétaro received 1.9 million tourists who generated an outlay of over 8 thousand 940 million pesos (USD$482 million); in the period of Easter it ranked as the top tourist destination without a beach in the country.
Since the nominations of the five Pueblos Mágicos of Queretaro there has been recorded an increase of 20,000 to 80,000 tourists a year in Bernal; in Jalpan, from 22,000 to 57,000; Cadereyta an increase in hotel occupancy per year from 175 to 236 percent; in Tequisquiapan an average of 100,000 visitors a year, and in San Joaquin, more than 18 thousand.
In his speech, the head of the Ministry of Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero said the initiative of Pueblos Mágicos is useful for the country, he endorsed the will of the federal government to strengthen it.
