Tourist attraction improvements in San Miguel de Allende.

In order to visit each of the major tourist destinations in the state of Guanajuato, the  State Congress Tourism Comission held a meeting in San Miguel de Allende to analyze the needs of this city in terms of tourism and strengthen its tourist attractions.

It was a nomadic session of the State Congress Tourism Commission, at the premises of the old City Hall, where besides members of the Tourism Commission, were present mayor Ricardo Villarreal, secretary of tourism Fernando Olivera Rocha, and federal deputy Veronica Angundis, as well as representatives of service providers from San Miguel de Allende.

At the meeting, deputies Lorenzo Salvador, Juan Jose Alvarez, Araceli Medina, María Ledezma, and Mario Alejandro, listened to the propositions and concerns of the service providers of this municipality to improve quality and attract more tourists with innovative projects that may turn this sector into a more efficient and timely one.

Part of the challenges of the session is “to achieve improvement in the quality of the services that San Miguel de Allende gives and to continue to position itself as a number one tourist destinations without a beach in our country,” said deputy Alvarez Brunel.

Deputy Araceli Medina Sanchez recalled that for the current fiscal period this legislation approved for the Tourism State Secretary of Guanajuato a budget of 451,292,678, pesos, for which a special declaration of approval was made for an amount of three million pesos for San Miguel de Allende, with which they look forward to improve the urban image of Atotonilco.

On the side of the service providers, Laura Torres Septien, president of the hotel industry in San Miguel de Allende, proposed that all bedroom houses that rent apartments and unregistered hotels should be regulated, to prevent further unfair trade in this municipality, which, according to Torres, affects the local economy by such clandestine public servants not paying taxes.

Meanwhile, Benigno Torres, president of the Business Cordinating Council of San Miguel de Allende, called for the benefit of the municipality in several essential points as:

The creation of a single window for all formalities that need to be made by the restaurant sector. Find a strategy to simplify the process of acquisition of alcohol licenses. Implement a program of waste management in the historic center. Add a tax of one percent to restaurant checks and establish a fund for promotion and improvements in the quality or our services. Install quality and sufficient public restrooms in historic center. The development of universal access for disabled people in the historic center. “Tierra Adentro” project management, national institute of San Miguel de Allende rural and urban areas entrepreneur, link to other chambers and agencies in the municipalities of the state as well as promoting business tourism in a more appropriate manner  through State and Federal Ministry of Tourism.

These were some of the proposals made by the representatives of the service providers of the municipality, which will be analyzed by the local congress Tourism Commission to later be presented in the State Congress. Because of that, deputy Alejandro Navarro Saldaña closed saying, “the local Congress is working hard to promote the steady growth of tourist activity, with the purpose of obtaining better living standards for Guanajuato’s population based on the great potential of the tourist attractions that we have.”
