Robbers looted a train while it stopped at six different locations within the state of Guanajuato: Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Salamanca, Pénjamo, Irapuato, and finally, León.

On Monday May 23, a train transporting corn and wheat was stopped by criminals, who stole sacks of grain in the Los Sauces community, just outside Leon.

The looting occurred around 4 am near the Maseca facilities, located on the Panamerican highway.

Elements of the Rural and Federal Police conducted a search operation looking for thieves, but no arrests were reported.

By the afternoon, local residents were still picking up corn and wheat scattered along the railroad tracks, the grain was put in buckets and sacks to be taken home.

All these products are stolen during the night time, or even on broad daylight, and practically on a daily basis at the following locations within the state of Guanajuato, along the railroad route:

  • Apaseo el Grande
  • Celaya
