SOU president visits University of Guanajuato

According to the Ashland Daily, Southern Oregon University and the University of Guanajuato renewed and extended 47 years of collaboration this month.

SOU President Dr. Roy Saigo and Provost Susan Walsh signed a formal “memorandum of understanding” during their visit to Ashland’s sister city. They were accompanied by Saigo’s wife, Barbara, and SOU Study Away Programs Manager Mary Gardiner.

Back in Ashland, Saigo said he felt the two universities were entering “a new era of love and respect” that ensured “the new agreement will be more than just signatures on a paper.”

The SOU delegation spent time with university and city officials and professional contacts, including Mexican alumni of the Amistad student exchange program between the two universities.

SOU President Dr. Roy Saigo rings the bell as his delegation gathers with city councilors at the Guanajuato Council Chambers.
