On Friday July 22, 2016 the Guanajuato International Film Festival begins and the San Miguel Times wants you to come to town, so you can enjoy a wide array of national and international films, accompanied by fine music and amazing culinary experiences.
Here are some tips on how to have a wonderful weekend in San Miguel de Allende with less than $109 USD ($ 2000 mxn) (Including transportation, food and lodging !)
1.- Transportation (from Mexico City)
At the Central de Autobuses del Norte (in Mexico City), Primera Plus buses leave every hour and in about 4 hours you’ll get to San Miguel. How much? $19 USD ($355 mxn) one way.

2.- Your stay
To experience the GIFF 2016 it is not necessary to stay in luxury accomodations because you’re not going to spend much time inside the room. So we recommend these hostels or small hotels which are clean, nice and affordable.
a) Hostal Punto 79 (Mesones 79, 37700 San Miguel de Allende, Gto.). $10 USD a night per person.
b) La Catrina Hostel (Loreto 80, Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Gto.) From $8 USD.
c) Hostel Inn (Calzada de la Luz # 31-A Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Gto.) $8 to $10 USD.
d) Hotel Casa Loteria (Hernández Macías 92, Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Gto.) $8 USD.
3. Food
There are many stands along the streets of San Miguel where you can enjoy tacos, tortas, tamales and other Mexican treats, just like in any other place in Mexico, so you would be spending an average of $8 USD ($150 mxn) per day treating yourself with that kind of “gastronomic delicacies”.
4.- Drinks
We have spent $82 USD ($1,510 mxn) so far, so why not spend $27 USD ($490mxn) on booze?
So, this is the San Miguel Times guide to enjoy GIFF on a budget!
