Guanajuato’s cable car to open on May 2018

The new cable car from Cristo Rey Hill to Guanajuato Bicentennial Park will begin operations on May 2018.

State Secretary of State Tourism, Fernando Olivera Rocha, said that investors already concluded arrangements with the municipality of Silao order to have this important tourist attraction working in two years time.

“We are hoping that in coming days they (investors) make the initial payment to the Austrian company that will build the cable car , and we are hoping that by February or March 2017 construction works will begin.”

The State Secretary recalled that the project is 100% private investment (Guanajuato and Sonora). The entrepreneurs’ projection is 450 thousand passengers taken from the Cristo Rey Hill to Guanajuato Bicentennial Park during the first year of operation.

“The number of passengers will grow, this will result in people taking a day in Bicentennial Park, climbing to Cristo Rey, going to mining towns, vineyards, hiking and biking. Businessmen have approached us to talk about the construction of ecoparks in the region and we will start to work on permissions and environmental impact studies” Fernando Olivera concluded.
