On July 19 in Mexico City, Queretaro state authorities presented a new edition of “Hay Festival”. From Monday 1 to Thursday 4 September 2016 a cultural exchange will be celebrated with more than 90 events related to music, film, performing arts, human rights, journalism and science, and it will take place in the city of Queretaro.
For the organization of this event, local authorities invested $200,000 USD, and signed an agreement with the organizers, who hope to generate 30 thousand visitors and an economic impact of more than 300 million pesos (15.7 million USD).
Several journalists such as Carmen Aristegui, Diego Enrique Osorno and SanJuana Martinez will analyze important national situations, for example the case of the 43 students of Ayotzinapa, Guerrero.
The programme includes the participation of world known writers such as Elena Poniatowska, Fernando del Paso y Gabriela Jauregui.
Ahmed Galai, an Egyptian activist who participated in the “Quartet for National Dialogue in Tunisia”, and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015; and Brtish lawyer and human rights expert Philippe Sands, will debate on human rights topics.
On film and the performing arts, Jorge Peugurria, Cuban actor, will share his acting experience with the public; while writer and dramatist, Nell Leyshon will present a monologue.
Four conferences will feature sign language and Braille reading system in order to make these activities inclusive to all people.
Admission to the festival is 30 pesos ($1.50 USD), while students and senior citizens will have free access, as long as they register on the “Hay Festival” website.
The activities will take place at various locations, such as Teatro Alameda, Cine Teatro Rosalío Solano, Museo Regional, Patio de la delegación del Centro Histórico, Jardín Guerrero and Plaza Fundadores.
“Hay Festival” also includes a programme for kids and teenagers, with the booktubers Valeria Hernandez and Alberto Villarreal; Javier Ruescas, Benito Taibo, Wonder Ponder and Juan Gedovious.
