Retail market in Queretaro, the most dynamic in Mexico

Queretaro is the Mexican state that has registered the most significant increase in sales of retailers, according to information from the Monthly Survey of Commercial Enterprises (“Encuesta Mensual sobre Empresas Comerciales” EMEC) conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (“Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía” INEGI).

In Queretaro, the INEGI recorded an increase of 38.1 percent, the highest among the 32 states of the country.

Furthermore, other states with the highest growth in income for provision of goods and services retailers in the fifth month of this year, were:

  • 35 percent in Durango
  • 34.6 percent in Guanajuato
  • 33.3 percent in San Luis Potosi
  • 32.5 percent in Baja California Sur

Meanwhile, EMEC data indicate that employees in the retail trade have increased with the following numbers:

  • 32.3 percent in Queretaro 
  • 34.7 percent in Guanajuato 
  • 16.3 percent in San Luis Potosi
  • 6.1 percent in Aguascalientes

Real average earnings were less dynamic, with increases in some states, such as:

  • 1.4 percent in Queretaro
  • 2 percent in Guanajuato
  • 6 percent in San Luis Potosi
  • 4.2 percent in Aguascalientes.

In conclusion, different specialists and entrepreneurs have recognized the progress in the tertiary sector –trade and services– in Queretaro and the Bajio region as a whole, basically as a result of a strong and constantly growing industrial activity.
