On July 26, one of the largest murals in Latin America, titled “Houston San Miguel” was presented during the 2016 Guanajuato International Film Festival at San Miguel de Allende, as part of the urban project “White Walls”.
The new image was painted at Juan de Dios Peza 39, in the corner with Tata Nacho, in Guadalupe Art District. This neighborhood has gathered a total of 43 murals of different artists so far.
The event was attended by the Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato Fernando Olivera Rocha, the artist Gonzo 247 and the director of “White Walls”, Jan Rothm, who is the president of Graffiti World, producer and member of GIFF organization committee.
The mural was created by Gonzo 247 and other four people, as a symbol of brotherhood between Houston and San Miguel de Allende.
The artists declared: “During the week the mural was being painted, it was the anniversary of man’s journey to the moon, and this commemoration is the motive for this art work”.
“The painting portrays an astronaut carrying a Mexican flag, so it is a Mexican cosmonaut. The idea is to communicate that if he can go to the moon, anyone can achieve their dreams”, continued Gonzo 247.
The creator of “Houston San Miguel”, said that without Rothm’s team and Collen, a foreign resident of San Miguel, this project could not have been possible to complete in only one week.
Finally, Gonzo 247 thanked the “Hello Houston team” and concluded: “I wanted to bring some of Houston to San Miguel. When I travel I try to get inspired by local traditions, so I walk around shops, stores, markets, factories, to see the colors, textures and fabrics; and in this case, all those local features were my inspiration for this mural”.
