German “Brose” to build new plant in Querétaro

On August 17, the German company “Brose Fahrzeugteile GmbH & Co.” began the construction of its third plant in Queretaro with an investment of 170 million USD, this facility will be dedicated to the production of automotive interior parts and car seats.

The complex will occupy an area of 56 thousand square meters within AeroTech Industrial Park, in the municipality of Colón. Initially, it will generate at least 900 direct jobs, said Thomas Spangler, Brose Group Operations Chief.

The breaking ground ceremony was attended by the governor of Querétaro, Francisco Domínguez Servién, along with state and municipal authorities. During the ceremony, Mr. Thomas Spangler highlighted the Brose’s development in Mexico and worldwide.

Brose currently features two facilities in Queretaro, and one in Puebla.

Their portfolio includes Ford, Volkswagen and BMW, among other automotive assembly plants.

Spangler said that Mexico represents about a third part of their total sales in the North American region and estimated to reach 42 percent of that market by the year 2021.

Meanwhile, Miguel Angel Sanchez Castillero, Director of the Brose plant located at Airport Industrial Park, said that production will formally begin in the new facility by 2018.

“The kick off curve is very strong and exponential, we will start production in early 2018. However, tests for the first pieces will be carried out during 2017, and by 2020 we will be producing about 3.5 million annual car seats “, said Castillo.

The Brose facility located at Colón Industrial Park will produce metal seat structures, applying all company processes in terms of patterns, welding, painting processes, final assembly, test equipment and customer delivery.

The company will also collaborate in education with the local community, training people in different disciplines, through several programs in coordination with institutions such as Conalep and State Department of Education (Secretaria de Educación Pública – SEP).

Castillo considered that there are significant challenges for the future, but by having specialized human capital, the state of Queretaro will have the capacity of responding to the constant demand of the automotive industrial sector.

“We will have larger consolidated plants with specialized personnel. For example, at the “El Marqués” plant 1,200 people are working right now, and the Airport Industrial Park will peak at 1500 employees by the end of the year.
