Querétaro, top non-beach tourist destination

In addition to recovering the first place in Mexico as a tourist destination without beach during the first quarter of this year; Queretaro keeps growing in number of rooms, hotel occupancy and tourists-night-stay.

The city is ready to welcome “Hay Festival” conferencists and attendees who will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide array of activities in an event that features artistic and cultural exhibitors and lecturers from all over the world. The government of Querétaro expects the arrival of at least 30,000 visitors.

The hotel occupancy during the first semester of 2016 in Queretaro was 57 percent, with 1,098,953 night-stays, that equals 558,074 visitors, generating an economic spill of $2.8 billion pesos ($147.3 million USD).

The occupancy numbers between January and June 2016, went up 6 percent compared to the same period of 2015. (8,147 hotel rooms this year versus 7,600 last year).

In 2015, the stay average was 1.88 and this year it is 1.98 nights, with an economic impact of 2,900 million pesos (152.6 million USD).

The Tourism Direction merged with the area of ​​International Affairs, in an effort to increase the percentage of hotel occupancy, average tourist stay and the economic benefit, creating the new “Tourism and International Affairs Office”, whose director is Esther Carboney Echave.

As part of the strategies to promote the cultural tourism in Queretaro, the municipality will be the permanent seat of “Hay Festival” an international event, which will be held every year in Queretaro.

Hay Festival will take place from September 1 to 4, with an estimated influx of 30,000 visitors and an expected economic impact of around 300 million pesos (15.7 million USD).
