San Miguel de Allende Gto.- On the morning of Monday August 22, a shootout allegedly between drug traffickers took place in front of a kindergarden located in the San Antonio neighborhood. This incident occurred in Stirling Dickinson Street, near to the corner with Calle Abril 28, around 11:30 am.

Public security officers received a report of “firearm detonations” and quickly arrived at the scene, where they arrested four people that tried to escape on board of a Ford SUV with Tamaulipas license plates.

Inside the vehicle, law enforcement agents found a gun (Smith & Wesson 9 mm), the person who carried the weapon was detained. However, his legal situation is unknown so far.

Additionally, three more suspects who allegedly participated in the shooting, are under investigation for crimes against public safety.

The place was yellow taped by Public Security officers for more than two hours, while the crime scene investigation was conducted.

The mayor of SMA, Ricardo Villareal (who was attending an event at “Ignacio Allende” Primary School, while the shooting took place), made the following statement regarding this incident: “This was a confrontation between drug dealers, that is why we are conducting operations to prevent this kind of situations”.

The mayor added: “Our municipality has the support of the state government to ensure the safety of our citizens. But, in order to avoid these situations in SMA, we need the state prosecutor and judicial authorities to help us to keep these kind of people behind bars, since one of the biggest problems that we suffer is impunity”.
