Another explosion ocurred in San Miguel de Allende on Monday Sep. 5

GUANAJUATO, Gto., (Appro) .- During the early morning hours of Monday, September 5, an explosion of great magnitude occurred in a commercial establishment in downtown San Miguel de Allende, resulting in three people injured. Several businesses and parked cars were damaged and some people experienced nervous breakdowns.

Also on Sunday morning, criminals set a car on fire, and abandoned it at “Los Rodriguez”.

According to the testimony of  one of the injured victims, he was at bar La Adelita, and went out to smoke a cigarrete. He said there were at least 100 people inside the bar.

As he was smoking his cigarette, the man saw a small bag with some kind of a flame coming out of it, and when he drew closer to check it out, it exploded.

The man suffered leg wounds and the blast completely destroyed the door of the business next to the bar and damaged windows of other properties nearby. Other man that was passing by, suffered wounds to the chest, arms and some people at the bar were treated for momentary deafness.

Civil defense personnel, Red Cross paramedics and firefighters arrived on scene to conudct the proper investigation, treat the injured and to help some senior citizens who suffered nervous breakdowns.

According to “San Miguel noticias con valor” Facebook page, the explosion occured in the downtown area (right between two well known bars: the Lismark and La Adelita, around 2 am. Several San Miguelenses said they heard the sound of the explosion, and saw a cloud of smoke several meters high.

State Emergency System personnel (SUEG Personal del Sistema de Urgencias el Estado) reported that three persons resulted injured and several citizens for temporary ear damage at local hospitals.

Explosive experts from the Mexican Army (Sedena – Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional) conducted an inspection of the area in order to determine what kind of explosive device or artifact was used.

One month ago, on August 6, a home made grenade (also known as “flash bang”) was detonated inside “El Sótano”, a bar located on Calzada de la Estación, right next to the train station. Then, 6 days later, an electronic explosive device was confiscated by police officers near Pénjamo, Guanajuato.

And last week, a similar incident occurred in the municipaity of Abasolo, where masked men threw explosives at a brewery and a grocery store. Eight people were injured as a result of the explosions.
