SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Gto.- The Secretariat of Sustainable Economic Development (Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico Sustentable) through the Business Coordinating Council (Consejo Coordinador Empresarial) conducts an Enology training program, along with other associations, such as CANACO-Servytur (Cámara Nacional del Comercio, Servicios y Turismo), Canirac (Cámara Nacional Restaurantera y Comida) and Winemakers Association (Asociación de vinicultores) of San Miguel de Allende.
With a duration of eight weeks, the course started on Monday, Sep. 5, and participants will obtain a certification from the Technological University of San Miguel (Universidad Tecnológica de San Miguel).
The wine course is intended for professional service personnel in restaurants, aiming to train staff, and several companies are participating.

They seek to train personnel working in the so-called “Wine Route” (Ruta del Vino), that is being promoted as a major gastronomic toursim attraction by the Secretariat of Sustainable Economic Development and eight companies.
The training takes place in a “specialized enology laboratory equipped for these kind of courses, in order to promote viticulture across Bajio region,” said Ulises de la Parra, academic secretary.
Gabriel Juarez, Academic Director of the Technological University of San Miguel (UTSMA – Universidad Tecnológica de San Miguel) declared that “San Miguel de Allende has a gastronomic tourist vocation and our University contributes to the professionalization of staff that the industry requires. The winemaking industry is an important sector of this region, as well as sustainable agriculture”.
It should be noted that Natalia López, a master wine taster, will be teaching in this theoretical and practical workshop, with her international experience as a somelier and her great expertise in this field.
The inauguration event was attended by Sonia Torres, Director of Economic Development of the municipality; Paolo Bisoto, Canirac’s President; Daniel Hernandez, President of CANACO-Servytur; Marisol Martin, Assistant Manager of the Business Council and Ulises Marquez, Academic Director of the UTSMA.
