On Tuesday, September 13 a new mobile app was launched in the state of Guanajuato. This app features a panic alert button, allowing citizens to report security incidents or emergencies in real time from their cell phones.

Users can also send photos, video or voice message, which will reach the Emergency System 066, and their reports will be channeled to Municipal Police, Traffic, Civil Protection, Red Cross or Fire in order to be attended asap.

Guanajuato Mayor Edgar Castro Cerrillo; Director of Public Safety, Christian Ortiz and Commissioner Hector Zepeda attended the presentation of the “Mobile Application Integrative and Generating Alerts” (AMIGA – Aplicación Móvil Integradora y Generadora de Alertas).

The application is now available for Android phones, and can be activated with Google Play (AMIGAGto). To create an account, you must enter personal information such as name, address, date of birth, blood type, drug allergies, telephone and emergency contacts.

Once the requested data is enabled, users will receive a call from the Address Security Citizen to validate the registration, and avoid false alerts. Because, according to official data, 70 percent the calls received at 066 are false alerts.

When making a complaint, report or panic alert through this app, it is no longer necessary to provide name or location, since the application immediately identifies the user and geagraphical location by GPS.

At the time, the mobile will record videos for a minute, and also will locate the place and type of emergency. Through this app, you can send photos of events that require immediate attention, such as an accident, gas leakage, medical emergency, etc.

The application was created by four students from the Advanced Studies Technological Institute of Guanajuato (ITESG – Instituto Tecnológico de estudios Superiores de Guanajuato ), who performed their professional service in the Department of Public Safety.

The app activation cost is 250 pesos (13 USD).
