The Ministry of Health of Guanajuato (Secretaría de Salud de Guanajuato) reported that a 14-year-old child, from “La Unión de San Antonio, Jalisco”, has become the organ donor number 40 so far this year.

The Secretary of Health, Francisco Ignacio Ortiz Aldana said: “the donor Francisco Imanol García had an accident with a truck while working for a local company.”

He explained that after the doctors made a brain death diagnosis on Imanol García, the mother made the important decision to donate his organs for the benefit of other people’s lives, through organ transplantation.

The procurement took place at the “Hospital General of León”, where a specialized equipment intervened to begin with the study protocol and verify the feasibility of each and every organ.

In this way, two kidneys will be available in Guanajuato to benefit a couple of patients on the waiting list.

Moreover, the State Center for Transplants (CETRA- Centro Estatal de Trasplantes) reported that during 2016, 62 kidneys, 59 corneas, 14 bones, 9 livers and one heart have been donated, resulting a total of 149 organs and tissues of 40 donors.

The Ministry of Health of Guanajuato recently launched a telephone line to provide more information about organ donation in the state: call 01 800 DAR VIDA (327 8432).

In 2015, the state of Guanajuato closed with the following donation numbers: 75 donors of organs and tissues which generated 279 organs, such as 98 kidneys, 140 corneas, 32 bones and three hearts.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health expects that this figure can be exceeded by the end of this year.

However, the waiting list has a total of 643 thousand Guanajuatenses, 1,269 of which are waiting kidneys, 271 corneas, and two livers.
