The “National Day against Sexual Child Abuse” forum took place in the Museum of Memory and Tolerance, in Mexico City, on Saturday November 19 with the aim of bringing social awareness to this type of child abuse.

Mexican NGO “Guardianes” stated that the forum is important “to address this problem, to take a deeper look at it, identify its origins, as well as its specific context in Mexico… but, above all, to know of the long term consequences this type of abuse has on children”.

Rosario Alfaro, director of “Guardianes”, warned that at least 25,000 children per year suffer from sex abuse, and 80% of the cases reported take place inside a family environment.

Alfaro noted that 60% of world child pornography is produced in Mexico and that Mexico is also rated as the number one country in terms of physical violence and murders against people under 14.
