City Park León Project “on hold”

Authorities reported that: “City Park León complex project” is temporarily on hold, due to the fact that it does not have construction or road impact permits. Right now, the project only counts with land use and Municipal Environmental Management license.

This Mix-Used complex is projected to be developed in León Guanajuato, with an investment of 400 million dollars.

On Tuesday November 29, during the meeting of the “Commission of Urban Development”, the municipal councilor, Salvador Sánchez Romero stated: “Any project must fulfill the requirements punctually, with each of the permits, because it can be stopped or canceled if one of the requirements is not met”.

The president of that commission, Teresita del Carmen Gallardo Arroyo also attended this important meeting.

In that sense, municipal councils Beatriz Yamamoto Cázarez, Ana María Carpio Mendoza, Segio Contreras Guerrero and Alejandro Alaniz Rosales also demanded an explanation regarding the status of this project.

This situation came up after the meeting of City Council sparked controversy last week, allegedly because municipal authorities and Company executives set the first stone of the project without a building permit.

The first stone was set in place for the new largest mall in the Bajio region at a ceremony held on Wednesday, November 23rd, and the event was attended by Governor Miguel Márquez Márquez and Mayor Héctor López Santillana, where Mexico Retail Properties (MRP) announced the start of the construction works for City Park León.

The complex is planned to be located at Lopez Mateos Avenue, in front of Morelos Boulevard, behind the Metropolitan Park and next to Los Cárcamos Park.

This innovative project features a shopping center, a corporate tower, two hotels, two apartment towers and a lake.

The PVEM’s councilor, Sergio Contreras Guerero, also said that: “The Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT), the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) have not given their permissions, which have to endorse the project.

Salvador Sánchez Romero, underlined that: Developers won’t be allowed to use Los Cárcamos lake for their benefit, since it will remain property of the municipality of León.
