Despite their age, six students from the Oxford Institute of Celaya, Guanajuato have shown tremendous talent and passion for Robotics, winning the first and second place in the WER 2016 (World Educational Robots Contest) in Mexico.

This achievement will enable them to participate in the international competition to be held in China.

WER, an acronym for World Educational Robot Contest, was founded and organized by Federation of World Educational Robot. WER is an international robot contest for teenagers from 6 to 18. Annually, more than 300,000 participants from 20 countries participate in WER regional contests.

Arturo Arath, Luis Alberto Garcia and Juan Diego Garcia are part of the “Magnamites team”, who took the second place; while Xavier Gómez de la Cortina, Osvaldo Rodriguez and Regina Vizcaya belong to “Robocops team”, who won the robotics contest.

Although they belong to different teams, these six students treat each other like family, because together they have developed the same passion for robotics, and have shared unforgetable experiences.

The best 75 teams from different states of Mexico, such as Querétaro, San Luis Potosi and Michoacán, competed at “Tech Campus” in Santa Catarina, Monterrey, Nuevo León.

It should be noted that the children received an “assembling kit” two weeks before the event, so they had to work day and night in order to have the robot ready.

In this contest, a robot had to programmed to perform different activities efficiently and quickly, besides some “surprise challenges” come up during the competition.

The students will go to China, where they will compete on Friday November 18th, against other kids from the United States, China, Japan, Argentina and other countries.

The children’s victory was so amazing that some universities already offered them scholarships for their college studies in the near future.

In addition to compete globally, they plan to have a friendly encounter with the guys from “Linxbots” of the Technological Institute of Celaya (ITC – Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya), who are also experts on Robotics.

Unbelievably, these tremendously talented youngsters are not receiving any aid from the state or federal governments, right now they are figuring out how to pay the cost of their trip to China, because it is quite expensive, and they are expecting to receive economic help from the private sector and/or government agencies.
