The seventh edition of the “José Alfredo Jiménez International Festival” will take place from Tuesday 22 to Sunday 27 November, in the town of Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato.
During the press conference, Octavio Humberto Aguilar Mata, Guanajuato’s Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion, highlighted the importance of this kind of events in the municipality of Dolores, which helps to trigger the regional economy in a significant way, and positions Guanajuato as a top destination for national tourists.
“We want to diversify the tourism offer in Dolores Hidalgo, through new products with great potential, aiming to preserve our traditions, and contributing to boost the regional economy, for the benefit our people” Aguilar said.
In the last six years, Dolores Hidalgo has recorded an occupation of 90 percent for this celebration, which is the second most important event in this town and besides Independence Day on September 16th it aims to become one of the most relevant celebration for the region.
The main goal of the “José Alfredo Jiménez International Festival” is to honor and tribute the memory of the “Poet of the People” (El Poeta del Pueblo), who is probably the most iconic composer of folkloric “Ranchero” music in our country.
For the 2016 edition, the Festival will feature important and famous artists, such as Liz Clapés, La Sonora Santanera, José Julián, Mariachi Camperos, Buena Vista Social Club and Yucatecan icon Armando Manzanero.
Several activities will be held during those days, such as:

- Bohemias
- Cantina’s Tour
- Tertulias
- La Charreada by José Alfredo Jiménez
The Festival aims to overcome last year’s 24,000 people attendance, and to generate an economic spill of more than 8 million pesos (400 thousand USD dollars).
José Alfredo Jiménez-Sandoval was a Mexican singer-songwriter of rancheras, whose songs are considered an integral part of Mexico’s musical heritage.
Jiménez was born in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato. According to the singer Miguel Aceves Mejía, he did not play an instrument and did not even know the Spanish word for “waltz” or what “keys” his songs were in. Nonetheless, he composed more than 1,000 songs. Among the most famous are “Me Equivoqué Contigo”, “Ella”, “Paloma querida”, “Tú y la mentira”, “Media vuelta”, “El Rey”, “Sin Sangre en las Venas”, “El jinete”, “Si nos Dejan”, “Amanecí en tus Brazos”, “Llegando a ti”, “Tu recuerdo y yo”, El Hijo del Pueblo”, “Cuando el Destino”, “El caballo blanco”, “Llegó Borracho el Borracho” and “Que te vaya bonito”, as well as “Camino de Guanajuato”, where he sang about his home state of Guanajuato.
