Massive CD / DVD piracy bust in San Miguel

On Thursday November 24, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, through its Deputy Attorney General for Regional Control, Criminal Procedures and Injunction, in its Guanajuato Delegation, secured 16,994 pieces of Illegal recordings or cinematographic material that violate the Copyright laws, in the municipalities of Salamanca and San Miguel de Allende.

In Salamanca, as part of Research Folders initiated by the Public Ministry of the Federation for Copyright Infringement, agents of the Criminal Investigation Agency, accompanied by Public Security officers, proceeded to raid the communities of La Capilla, San Jose de Mendoza and Loma de Flores.

On the scene, authorities secured five thousand DVDs, two thousand CDs and seven thousand falsified DVD/CD covers.

Meanwhile, in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, elements of the AIC, conducted an operation on Calle Benito Juárez and López Rayón in the Zona Centro, where they secured 1,216 DVDs, 256 CDs and 1,472 DVD/CD covers, all fake.

Subsequently, the illegal material was kept under the protection of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, head of the Unit of Attention and Immediate Determination (Unidad de Atención y Determinación Inmediata: UNAI), in order to continue with the integration of the Investigation Folder initiated for the crime of Copyright infringement.
