Querétaro’s Tourism Sector foresees an economic impact of 480 million USD for 2016

By the end of the year, Querétaro expects an economic spill of 9.6 billion pesos (480 million USD) for tourism, which would represent 12 percent more compared to 2015.

In an interview with Notimex, Hugo Burgos García, Queretaro’s Secretary of Tourism, declared: “By the end of 2016, Querétaro will register at least two million visitors, 80 percent of them national.

During the “Connect to Tourism (Conéctate al turismo)” program launching ceremony at the International Convention Center in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Burgos García stated: “Querétaro is a destination prefered for business meetings, as 53 percent of the total visitors come to the state to attend  conventions”.

He continued explaining: Due to the fact that Querétaro is located in the central region of Mexico, its geographical situation allows the state to attract a great number of visitors from Mexico City, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí and Michoacán, among other states.

Then, he added: “Querétaro is ranked second in the country for wine production, with almost three million bottles per year, and its “Cheese and Wine Route” is consolidating as one of the main tourist attractions in the country”.

“This route currently registers more than 600 thousand visitors per year, with an economic spill of almost one billion pesos (50 million USD)”, García Burgos pointed out.

“Even though, the budget for next year presents a reduction of 63.8 percent, Querétaro will continue seeking to obtain the title of “Magic Town” for the municipality of Amealco, because this destination complies with the required qualities and characteristics to become “Pueblo Mágico“.

“We expect to have the same growth next year,” García Burgos concluded, during his presentation at the opening ceremony of the business conference that was coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Jalisco, which expects to have more than 1,200 business meetings between 45 managers and 250 Mexican service providers.
