During the first meeting with state and municipal authorities in order to evaluate the results of the recently implemented security strategy in Guanajuato, Interior Minister, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong pointed out that: “the number of homicides in the municipalities of Irapuato, León and Celaya, decreased in the last two months”; however, he didn’t provide exact figures to support this information.
In this regard, Osorio Chong declared: “We have good news, the homicide rate has had a considerable decrease in those three muncipalities.”
He continued: “We want to solve this national problem, municipality by municipality, state by state, as it has been done here in Guanajuato. We come to support state authorities for a period of time, in order to help them fight against criminal groups”.

Osorio Chong said that the figures regarding this subject can be found at “The Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System” (Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública).
The Officer stated: “The Federal Government recognizes that this year, and particularly during the months of June, July, August and September, the number of homicides increased considerably”.
“Our strategy aims to lower the crime rates, in this state and the rest of the country. You can verify the figures, it is public information provided by the Secretariat.”
“We are seeking to reach inter-municipal and interregional agreements to combat insecurity, working together in one direction”, he explained
During the first meeting with state and municipal authorities to evaluate the results of the security strategy, Osorio Chong underlined the importance of addressing the issue of insecurity, disregarding boundaries or jurisdictions between states and authorities, he said: “the insecurity problem must be faced as a nation and all states must work together to solve it”.
Mexico’s Interior Minister concluded: “although it is complicated, we have signed agreements in order to have a special command of the armed forces to combat organized crime ”.
