According to Mexico City based newspaper “El Financiero”, Toyota just celebrated the “first stone” ceremony, breaking ground for its new plant in Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato on Monday, November 14.
The Apaseo el Grande plant requires a capital investment worth US$1 billion and it will generate 2,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs, and it will be built on a 600 hectares lot (1,482 acres).
Óscar Albín, the president of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA), stated: “In the next two years, the Japanese automotive company will make purchases of up to three billion pesos (150 million USD) in auto parts from different suppliers in Mexico and abroad.
The Guanajuato site will be Toyota’s second Mexican plant, joining the Tijuana plant that assembles the Tacoma. (Google)
Toyota Company will bring “Tier 1” suppliers, and local companies will supply this complex and these “Tier 1” firms as well, which is obviously very positive for the local economy.
Albín concluded: “The Bajio region generates 25 percent of all national auto parts production, while the northern Mexico region generates 50 percent. The total national production is equivalent to 82 billion US dollars”.
Toyota Guanajuato will start operations in 2019 and the first 2020 model will be released around the month of August 2019. The company’s intention is to become the most important automotive plant in the state of Guanajuato.
The Japanese company decided to settle in Guanajuato due to its great offer of existing suppliers, even though, suppliers from the U.S. and Japan might also be in order.
