Cable car project advances in Guanajuato

GUANAJUATO, Gto. (OEM-Informex)  .- “Early next year, we will set the first stone on place of what will be the cable car in Guanajuato capital, which will connect the city center with the outskirts”, said the Governor of Guanajuato state, Miguel Marquez Márquez.

In an interview, Márquez mentioned that: “As part of the actions to improve the mobility throughout the state, our government has envisioned many projects, and the cable car is probably the most ambitious of all, along with “Las Teresas” highway, and the Santa Fe roundabout”.

On that sense, he indicated that the cable car project is progressing satisfactorily. However, it is still being reviewed by the municipal authorities and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in order to validate it.

He added information about the “Cable car project”, underlined that the “Diego Rivera access” will be the starting point, then it would descend to the building of the ISSEG, at the “San Pedro parking lot”, in the center of the city.

“The cable car initiative is progressing very well, it is being seen in a comprehensive project by the municipality and the INAH.  We hope the construction work can start next year, it is worth mentioning that it will not be funicular, but a Cable car.” the governor continued.

The difference between cable car and funicular is that cable is a long object used to make a physical connection while funicular is a particular type of rail transit system which ascends a steep urban or mountain incline, having usually two cars sharing a single track, with the cars linked by a cable and an arrangement of pulleys such that the descending car assists in the hoisting of the ascending car, ie the two cars serve as counterweights for each other. “By 2017, the specifications of the project will be established within the proposals, in order to be completed by 2018”.

Márquez explained that the Cable car will not be tendered, but a private company will be in charge of this comprehensive project that will solve the problems of mobility that the capital has experienced in recent years.
