Citizens claim justice for 519 missing persons in Guanajuato

LEÓN, Gto .- On Wednesday December 21st, 2016, it’s been four months since the report of seven people missing, while being abducted in a repair shop (vulcanizadora) in Salamanca.

A total of 519 people have been reported missing in Guanajuato, and their whereabouts are still unknown, according to the National Registry of Data of Lost or Missing Persons (Registro Nacional de Datos de Personas Desaparecidas – RNPED) concerning crimes of the common law.

According to the registry offered by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, out of the 519 people missing from 2007 to October 2016, 103 are women and 416 are men.

In the municipality of Salamanca, a total of 16 people have been reported missing in the last 9 years, including the seven people on August 21, 2016.

However, Leon is the municipality that leads the number of people missing in Guanajuato during the last 9 years, with a total of 66 individuals whose whereabouts are still unknown up to date; followed by Celaya, with 53; Pénjamo, with 42; Irapuato, 26; Salamanca and Guanajuato, with 16, and San Miguel de Allende with 15.

The municipalities with the lowest number of missing persons are: Xichú, Dolores Hidalgo, Abasolo, Ocampo, Manuel Doblado , San Francisco del Rincon, Purísima del Rincon, San Felipe, Tarimoro Tierra Blanca, Salvatierra and Tarandacuao.
