“Matadors” return to the bullring in San Miguel’s Plaza Oriente

During a press conference that took place at Plaza Oriente in San Miguel de Allende on Tuesday December 19, Mexican enterpreneur Pablo Alvarez revealed details of the First Bull Fighting Season in SMA.

During the press conference that was attended by mayor Ricardo Villareal García and legendary “Matador” Fermín Espinosa “Armillita IV”, Álvarez officially announced the first bullfight, that will kick off a series of events, and informed that some of the most important names in today’s bullfighting scene, such as Eulalio Lopez “Zotoluco”, Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza and Rodrigo Santos will be part of the 2017 season in SMA.

The season will kick off this coming Saturday December 31, at 4:30 pm, with the performance of “Rejoneador” Rodrigo Santos, and “Matador” Fermín Espinosa “Armillita IV”, along with José Garrido, fighting bulls from “La Macarena”.

Saturday January 21, at 5:30 pm, with the performance of one of the most talented Mexican “Matadors” Eulalio Lopez “Zotoluco”, as the main event of the “II Corrida de Insurgencia”.

Saturday April 15, at 5:30 pm (Holy Saturday), with the performance of world renown “Rejoneador Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza”, and the formal debut as professional “Rejoneador” of his son, “Guillermo Hermoso de Mendoza”.

Rejoneador is the name given to a bullfighter who fights the bull on horseback (should not be confused with the picador).

Pablo Álvarez concluded: “the main objective of this First Bull Fighting Season in SMA is to make “La Plaza de Toros de Oriente” great again, as a first-class arena for the art of Bullfighting”.
