Thousands of people celebrated and worshipped the Virgin of Guadalupe in Irapuato

On Monday December 12, masses, dances, traditional games and vintage folk were part of the annual celebration of the virgin of Guadalupe at the Temple of “Our Lady of Guadalupe del Puente” (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe del Puente), where thousands of people gathered to celebrate and thank “La Morenita del Tepeyac“.

From the early morning hours of Monday December 12, thousands of catholic believers arrived at the “Calzada de Guadalupe”, to visit the temple and they to take the traditional photograph, as a souvenir of this important day.

Colorful balloons and beautiful feathers could be seen, while dozens of traditional dancers perfomed in the atrium of this sacred place. Entire families, including babies, could be seen at the temple.

People stood in line for more than an hour, awaiting to enter the church,so they could leave offerings to the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Meanwhile, they enjoyed the attractions in the church’s atrium.

Both “La Calzada” and a section of the “Diaz Ordaz Boulevard” remained closed to traffic and instead, mechanical games were installed. All kind of items and souvenirs were sold along the street, while food stands offered traditional dishes.

Thus, one more year, the Catholics lived this traditional celebration, that continues to be one of the most deeply rooted popular festivities in Irapuato, which gathers thousands of residents that come to this city from different municipalities in the region.
