Guanajuato’s Tourism Office to improve gastronomic markets

GUANAJUATO, Gto. – Salvador Jaime Arroyo, Guanajuato’s Municipal Director of Tourism, justified the budget approved of 300 thousand pesos for this year. It will be applied in the improvement of the infrastructure of the “Hidalgo”, “Gavira” markets and the food court at “Presa de la Olla”.

However, Arroyo admitted that authorities have not decided yet how to allocate this money.

Councelor Ramon Izaguirre criticized this budget, first of all because it is absolutely insufficient, and also because this resource destination is still not clear.

Salvador Jaime Arroyo stated: “we don’t know yet if this money will be used to rescue the gastronomic markets’ infrastructure. It is absolutely urgent to dignify our markets, unify the image and boost the tourist offer in the municipality.”

“The plan also includes to provide these traditional food courts with adequate sanitary conditions as well as security measures in gas and electric power installations,” the municipal officer continued.

“The scope of the project needs to be properly defined. This is something similar to what is going to be done with the Mummies Museum where, even though a project for an important extension has been approved, this will not happen immediately” he added.

“The situation is the same with our markets, a large infrastructure project is necessary; but we can start improving the urban image with small actions that are not too expensive,” concluded the Municipal Tourism Director.
