Guanajuato, the historic Mexican state, opens its doors to the Spanish public one more time this year, coinciding with its participation in the International Fair of Tourism (FITUR, Feria International de Turismo), featuring the state’s traditions, culture and gastronomy.
Attendance to the ‘Point Guanajuato-Mexico’ exhibition in the Spanish capital will able to enjoy a number of cultural events, activities, tastings and gastronomic exhibitions.
According to the organizers, Guanajuato’s culinary art, rich in tastes and special nuances, is set to conquer the people of Madrid with amazing gastronomic delicacies offered by chefs David Quevedo and Cuauhtémoc Herrera, authentic ambassadors of the Guanajuato’s cuisine.
Moreover, quintessential Mexican drinks, such as tequila and mezcal, will be available for all attendees, with incredible flavors, different presentations and specialized “maridajes”, where everybody can fraternize in a Mexican style.
At “Velázquez 12”, attendees will get to know the culture of Guanajuato through gastronomic and craft workshops, some of them focused on children.
Additionally, other activities will take place during the exhibition, such as karaoke sessions, with songs by poet-composer Jose Alfredo Jiménez, one of the most illustrious characters of the state of Guanajuato. Amateurs will have the opportunity to sing the songs of “José Alfredo” (after a few shots of tequila).
The state of Guanajuato is one of the most representative historic zones of Mexico. Located in the north central part of the country, it is one of the Mexican cultural references, and the craddle of Mexican independence.
Guanajuato capital and San Miguel de Allende are the most important tourist destinations in the state, and both have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
This state is the birhtplace of illustrious XX Century characters such as painter Diego Rivera, singers Jorge Negrete and Pedro Vargas, composer and singer José Alfredo Jiménez and writer Jorge Ibargüengoitia, among many others.
Every year Guanajuato celebrates the “Cervantino Festival”, considered one of the most important cultural events around the world, due to the magnitude and significance of its international artistic activities.
All activities at “Velazquez 12” have been programmed by the Guanajuato’s Secretary of Tourism, Fernando Olivera Rocha, who is well known in Spain, where he worked for six years as Delegate of Mexico’s Tourism Office in Madrid.
Olivera will be granting interviews for the Spanish media, to talk about Guanajuato and this one-of-a-kind exhibition.
