On Monday February 20, the City of San Miguel de Allende filed 9 criminal charges before the Public Prosecutor’s Office for damage to the treasury (daño al erario) and fraud against the former municipal administration headed by Mauricio Trejo Pureco.
The amount could reach up to 80 million pesos (4 million USD). And another 14 complaints will be announced next week, even though there are already 72 proceedings opened by the Municipal Comptroller.
Ricardo Villarreal, Mayor of San Miguel de Allende, made a public presentation called, “Fraud in San Miguel de Allende,” portraying videos and photographs of the accused officials.
In this presentaion, the mayor exposed the 2012 – 2015 municipal administration modus operandi , in which the misuse of public goods was carried out by means of non-existing companies, front persons and irregular purchases.

Out of these 9 complaints, 4 are against people who, in addition to working for companies on behalf of Mauricio Trejo Pureco, were receiving a salary from the Municipal Treasury (without even showing up at the municipal office).
According to the investigation conducted by mayor Ricardo Villarreal, these are the same 4 people, who after being fired by Mauricio Trejo Pureco, confessed the facts before the Court of Conciliation and Arbitration.
