Don’t miss “Sketching Workshop” in San Miguel de Allende!

The focus of this workshop is the public realm—the streets, parks and plazas between buildings—where the life of great cities takes place.  Here, the Mexican colonial architecture of San Miguel de Allende acts as the backdrop of a stage set, and the “players”—people in motion, vehicles, street furnishings, trees, birds—act in concert to bring life and energy to the scene.  How can this brilliant exuberance and “personality of place” be captured in a sketch?  We’ll explore a number of strategies and techniques:

  • Dynamic composition
  • Drawing people first
  • Intensifying proportions and perspective
  • Connecting dark shapes to create rhythm and unity, and
  • Thoughtful use of color for emphasis and mood.

Join us in our San Miguel de Allende’s centro studio for this engaging workshop with designer, artist, author and Urban Sketcher correspondent James Richards, a visitor to San Miguel, who’s spending a bit of his vacation to share his knowledge. We’ve arranged this workshop to coincide with our weekly Tuesday Sketch Group, so immediately after this workshop, you can join the free afternoon sketch and practice what we’ve just learned. Bring your sketching arsenal and your stool, so you’ll be prepared to hit the streets and capture its energy.
