Guanajuato official host of the World Tourism Day 2017

Guanajuato.- According to the Federal Secretariat of Tourism (Secretaría de Turismo, Sectur), the official World Tourism Day 2017 celebrations will be held in Guanajuato, on September 27th.

Located at the center of Mexico, with two important World Heritage cities: Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, the state of Guanajuato has a reputation as the most important historical and cultural tourist destination in México.

Featuring five incredible magic towns (Jalpa de Cánovas, Yuriria, Salvatierra, Dolores Hidalgo and Mineral de Pozos), as well as archaeological sites and a Tourist centers network (Red de Paradores turísticos).

According to a statement, this important designation was granted due to several actions carried out by the state government in order to boost the tourism sector and to turn Guanajuato into a sustainable tourist destination.

The statement issued by SECTUR, also pointed out that this program has the purpose of encouraging destinations and state government agencies to avoid negative ecological impact derived from tourism activity, resulting in a benefit for all society.

Among the achievements of Guanajuato on this matter, there is the organization of the First International Forum of Tourism Sustainability in 2016.

This prestigious appointment was officially announced during the XV National Forum of Tourism 2017, that took place in Mexico City on Wednesday February 22.
