“Any policy to drive up costs of Corona, tequila, or margaritas is a bad idea” (US Sen. Graham)

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said he’s not a fan of President Trump’s apparent support for a tax on imports, especially if they end up increasing the cost of things like beer and other alcohol from Mexico.

“Border security yes, tariffs no. Mexico is 3rd largest trading partner. Any tariff we can levy they can levy. Huge barrier to economic growth,” Graham tweeted on Thursday January 26.

“Simply put, any policy proposal which drives up costs of Corona, tequila, or margaritas is a big-time bad idea. Mucho Sad,” Graham added, referring to Trump’s “sad” line he occasionally includes at the end of tweets.

Trump and his team signaled  that they are getting behind the GOP idea of a new tax regime that would tax imports, but create a much lower tax on exports as a means of keeping the U.S. competitive.

Trump indicated that he now sees that proposal as a way to generate money from Mexican imports, and use that money to pay for the border wall.
