Guanajuato and Paraguay join efforts to strengthen their tourism sectors

Both Guanajuato and Paraguay Secretariats of Tourism signed an understanding memorandum, aiming to improve the best practices for the generation of tourist information.

According to Fernando Olivera Rocha, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, this is a historic event, since it is the first time the state of Guanajuato signs some kind of treaty with a foreign country in this particular matter, in order to improve the quality of the Tourism Observatory services.

In an interview, Olivera Rocha explained: “the Tourism Observatory of Guanajuato is the only one in Latin America that belongs to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), where only eight countries have become members”.

“We have years of experience in the field of information analysis, methodological processes to obtain results, but also in sustainable tourism research, which has allowed us to be recognized in this sector,” he said.

The state official explained that, during the 2016 meeting of sustainable observatories in Spain, Paraguayan authorities agreed to sign a document with Guanajuato representatives, mostly due to the UNWTO recommendation for Paraguay to work hand by hand with Mexico to improve their Tourism Observatory practices.

Marcela Bacigulapo, Paraguay’s Minister of Tourism, said: “Several methodologies and analytical techniques are being conducted to work on contents that serve us to make decisions and attract more projects and investments”.

She continued: “We’ve taken the first steps to get information from the tourism observatory in México, we expect to grow steadily thanks to a policy of promotion of this sector, especially in business tourism”.

“Since last year we asked for the support of Guanajuato as one of the best observatories in Latin America, Paraguay will use this tool for the first time, seeking to provide more information to the private sector,” Bacigulapo concluded.
