The Querétaro Institute of Transportation (Instituto Queretano del Transporte, IQT) didn’t give clearance to Uber Company to operate in the state as a digital platform to provide executive taxi services, said Alejandro López Franco, director of the institute.
Hence, this executive transport company filed an injunction against the current regulation and the public invitation to register this kind of digital taxi service, and will review in what sense is there legal recourse to determine the proceeding of the state authority.
“State authorities pointed out that this executive transport company did not fulfill all the requirements that they requested in the public invitation and Uber made use of their right to file this judicial resource. However, the state authority will respond to that legal remedy,” said López Franco.
During an interview, the official was asked whether the units which provide this service may continue operating, and he answered that they should review the conditions of this injunction that Uber filed recently.
‘We were notified last week, on Wednesday March 22. We are on time to respond, therefore we can’t give much information, since we have to prepare the response and it is not convenient to give some information,” he explained.
The official emphasized that the next call to register digital platforms will publish in 2018, although they will review the response from the judicial authorities regarding the injunction.
So far 20 platforms have solicited permission to work in Querétaro, and did comply with the requirements.
On the other hand, López Franco commented that the permissions for executive drivers are not for sale. He explained that there have been rumors about the sale of those documents. He mentioned that those will be granted on a personal basis.
