SMA’s municipal authorities provide social care through ‘Martes Ciudadano’

On Tuesday March 1st, in the communities of “Tres Palmas” and “Pedregal de Jericó”, directors of different municipal areas attended the “Citizen Tuesday Program” (Programa Martes Ciudadano).

Some three hundred petitions were made by residents of these municipal communities, mostly regarding social assistance, such as urban infrastructure programs, drinking water service, improvement of rural roads and the construction of roofs and esplanades for local schools.

Municipal officials registered the residents’ requests, in order to follow up the corresponding processes at Municipal  State or Federal levels, depending on the case.

San Miguel de Allende is divided in 17 geographic zones and based on this, authorities are making a call every Tuesday, inviting the citizens of the different communities, to step forward and express their needs directly to their municipal government representatives.

The community of  “Tres Palmas” is integrated by “El Paredón”, “El fraile”, “La Medina”, “La Perla”, “Palma gorda”, “Peñón de los Baños”, “San Cristóbal”, “San José de la Cruz” and “San Miguelito”.

On Tuesday March 1st, the program took place at the “Ignacio Zaragoza” Elementary School that has been operating for 30 years.

Several mothers from these communities ask the authorities to solve the pollution problem generated by the smell and concentration of waste from the nearby cattle ranch. They assured that, during the month of May, when the rainy season starts, the water carries feces that reach their communities down the river.

The Director of Environment and Ecology, Norberto Carbajo stated that “they will work to solve this issue as soon as possible”.
