Toone Tours Tannery

Join a rare opportunity exploring history and nature by hiking through pastures, creeks, woods and cliffs leading to a 1672 aqueduct that supplied the energy for a tannery.  Here the tannery’s foundations are surrounded by waterfalls and a natural spring that is always extremely cold and screams for toe dipping fun.

The area is about an hour outside of town.  The hike takes two hours in each direction.  The trail is strenuous, and sometimes wet, but not steep.  However, we are deep in the countryside with easy access to nothing but nature and the ruins of early Spanish life in Guanajuato’s foothills.

On Saturday, May 18th, you can join San Miguel’s top ranked walking tour guide, and bestselling author of the SMA Secrets series of books, for this unique adventure.  Space is limited so contact Joseph Toone at Joseph Toone Tours (dot com) or Toone.Joseph@yahoo.com to reserve a spot.  We will be leaving town at 8AM and returning mid afternoon.  The cost is 80 USD or 1600 pesos per person.

Much of the trail is shaded but bring sun block, water and a Winnie the Pooh type of smackerel to feel your best strolling through natural beauty with reminders of Colonial era history.

Joseph Toone is the Historical Society’s short-story award winning author of the SMA Secrets book series.  All books in the series are Amazon bestsellers in Mexican Travel and Holidays.  Toone is SMA’s expert and TripAdvisor’s top ranked historical tour guide telling the stories behind what we do in today’s SMA.  Visit HistoryAndCultureWalkingTours.com, and JosephTooneTours.com.
