QUERÉTARO – On Wednesday April 19, the Animal Control Unit of the municipality of Querétaro (Unidad de Control Animal) made the following statement: “despite the fact that the number of abandoned animals has decreased, more than 170 have been caught only in the month of March 2017″.
Alejandro Gonzalez Valle, head of Queretaro’s Public Services municipal office, stated: “During the month of March, 660 animals have been captured. This center reached the critical number of 1,779 rescued lost or abandoned animals”.
“So far in April, at least 174 animals have been abandoned, while in March, 529 pets were reported stranded.”
González Valle, said that they increased the capacity of the Animal Control Unit of the municipality (UCAM), and opened a new area at the UCAM facility in Lomas de Casa Blanca.
The Municipal Public Services Secretariat plans to build a second Animal Control Unit by 2018, which will be located in the Santa Rosa Jáuregui area, with an investment of $10 million pesos (580,000 USD).
According to Alejandro González Valle who led the first Unit, the new one will have the capacity to house more than 100 animals (among dogs and cats), which means twice as much as the first one that operates in Colonia Casa Blanca.
