In February 2017, 23 robberies were committed in Guanajuato’s schools, according to the Ministry of Education of Guanajuato (Secretaría de Educación de Guanajuato, SEG).

The municipality that has registered a large number of robberies is Irapuato, with six complaints filed in February 2017 (with a total of twenty-three in the state of Guanajuato).

In Salamanca five robberies were reported in several schools, three in Acámbaro’s schools, three in Dolores Hidalgo and three in San Luis de la Paz.

Additionally, two robberies took place in schools of Guanajuato capital and one in an educational campus in León.

Meanwhile, Guanajuato witnessed another bloody weekend.

César Vázquez, Secretary of Public Security, declared that the Attorney General’s Office is in charge of carrying out the proper investigations about the attacks committed in “Canaca” and “Amazonas” bars in the municipality of “Apaseo el Alto”, which occurred last weekend (Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April).

During these events 400 gunshots were estimated, as well as two grenades were found in each place. Those devices did not detonate, though.

Vázquez affirmed that the safety of all residents of “Apaseo el Alto” is fully guaranteed.

In the early morning hours of Sunday April 2nd, eleven homicides were recorded in different places of Guanajuato, including Celaya.
