Remains of missing boy finally found at bottom of water well

Three-year-old boy Héctor who fell into an 80-meter-deep well in Villagrán, Guanajuato, as reported by the San Miguel Times yesterday, was finally found dead by a rescue operations team on Tuesday April 25.

Alma Cecilia Arellano, mother of the child, expressed: “We urgently need the support of state authorities to rescue my son as soon as possible, since he has been at the bottom of the well for more than five days now”, and added that she cannot stand this situation anymore, but as long as his child is still missing, she had the hope that he coud be alive.

Hector’s remains were found 66 meters deep in the well, near where his stepfather, the boy and a group of young people were hunting hares six days ago.

According to his own relatives’ testimony, the child suddenly disappeared, they started searching for him, but several minutes later, as there was no signal of him, they asumed that he had fallen into the pitt located in the middle of a field.



In the meantime, Jose Tovar, stepfather of the child, pointed out that he could hear the child crying at the bottom of the well, and that he was trying to climb up, however it was too deep to get out… and finally we called to emergency services in order that they rescue our child”.

Later on, Civil Protection personnel, firefighters and a special rescue operations crew from Mexico City arrived on site to get the boy out of the well, known as “Agosto 18”.

After hours of distress for Hector’s parents, relatives and friends, who could not do anything, just observe the rescuers’ work, the child was finally found dead.

“We were able to locate the child at the bottom of the well, but unfortunately he did not survive the fall,” said Eduardo Alanís, Villagrán’s official, and concluded saying that: “the recovery of the body is expected to take three days, and we will dig a parallel well in order to retrieve the boy’s remains”.
