San Miguel’s City Council plans to raise public transportation fares

So far no agreement regarding the increase of  public transportation rates in San Miguel has been published in the Official Journal of the State of Guanajuato. The San Miguel government intends to raise these tariffs on Friday April 7th, though.

In early 2017 the city council approved the creation of a commission with the objective to analyze the increase of the transportation tariff. The first proposal went up to $12 pesos, incredibly.

Afterwards, on Thursday March 9 during an ordinary session of the municipal council, the officials approved a readjustment. The cost goes from $5.00 pesos to $7.00 pesos for general public, and $3.50 pesos for preferred people (students, disabled, senior citizens).

Regarding the rural communities routes, the approved rate means an increase of 20%, so the total cost goes from $10.00 to $12.00 and $20.00 to $24.00 pesos.

It is expected that this agreement will be published on Thursday April 6 and the increase to take effect the next day (Friday, April 7).

Sandra Gisela Camargo Zúñiga, Municipal director of Transportation, indicated that they have already agreed on the new image of the public units and pointed out that so far the concessionaires show willingness to comply with all the agreements.

In this way, when the new rate will be approved, the city council must request to all concessionaires to equip their new units with: Free internet, security cameras and music, which will be regulated for environmental issues.
