San Miguel de Allende, Gto – On Monday May 8th, as chairman of the Association of World Heritage Cities in México and Mayor of San Miguel de Allende, Ricardo Villarreal García attended the launching of the program “Mexico Experience in Ottawa“, aimed at promoting cultural tourism throughout México, displaying one of the best recommendation letters in our country: San Miguel de Allende.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Secretario de Relaciones Exteriores, SRE), through Ambassador Agustín García López, Secretary of Tourism (Secretario de Turismo, SETUR) Enrique de la Madrid, municipal and state authorities along with Canadian representatives attended the event that was held in the framework of the 150 years of Canadian Independence celebration.

As a result of innovate tourism policies that are being carrying out in San Miguel de Allende with support of the federal government, the delegation promoted cultural tourism across the “Maple’s Leaf” country. For that effect, Mayor Villarreal as President of the Association of World Heritage Cities in México represented all Mexican municipalities during the event.

Mexican authorities seek to boost Cultural Tourism, that besides the beach destinations, allows tourists from other countries to enjoy one of the most impressive traditions in the world, the Mexican culture.

The representation in that country is really important considering that Canadian tourism in Mexico is the second most important and many of this tourists visit and even reside temporarily or permanently in San Miguel Allende.

In that sense, Ricardo Villarreal met with Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson and Mayor of Quebec, Régis Labeaume in order to exchange experiences and strengthen bilateral relationships to boost the tourism sector in both countries.

“Due to the fact that U.S. President Donald Trump currently carries out immigration and economic policies that directly affect Mexican nationals, we must strength our relations with Canada, it is more important than ever”, concluded Major Ricardo Villareal.
