University of Guanajuato showcases student’s musical talent

Guanajuato – On Monday May 15, the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato along with students from the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (División de Arquitectura, Arte y Diseño, DAAD) offered a magnificent concert aimed to close the eighth edition of “Espiral: University Forum”(Foro Universitario).

Under the direction of the Master Roberto Beltrán Zavala, the Orchestra interpreted works such as “Imperial March” (Star Wars, 1977), “El fuerte del sombrero” by Mario Zavala, “O Fortuna” (Carmina Burana, 1937), as well as traditional Mexican pieces such as “La Llorona“, “El Cascabel” and “La Bruja” with arrangements by UG students, “Huapango” by Juan Pablo Moncayo, “Conga del Fuego Nuevo” by Arturo Márquez and “Verano porteño” by Astor Piazzola.

Besides, the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato was accompanied by the Music Department’s Polyphonic Choir of the aforementioned university, and several other artistic groups formed by students of the Division of Architecture, Art and Design “Tango Insurgente”, “Nomadance”, “Colectivo AVisual”, “Lums” and “Jesslerieves”.

The “Symphonic Spiral” (Espiral Sinfonico) program was designed with a special focus on the student community, but aimed to captivate all attendees. The Orchestra pubicly thanked the invitation made by Maestro Beltrán Zavala and played different popular pieces.

At the end of the show, the Director General of the University Forum, Ángel Rodríguez Gómez announced that the program was made up of more than 200 events, and was attended by more than 30 thousand spectators.

“We have literally invaded the city of Guanajuato during the last 10 days,” Rodríguez Gomez said.

At the same time, he said that the activities were carried out in the four university campuses, in various headquarters of the Upper Middle Level College (Colegio del Nivel Medio Superior), and reaffirmed the intention to turn “Spiral” (Espiral) into the most important cultural project for the University of Guanajuato.
