“Local, national and foreign visitors will be able to enjoy and tour one of the new Guanajuato’s cultural and historic attractions. The rock paintings at the new opened archaeological zone in the municipality of Victoria, Guanajuato,” informed the state’s Secretary of Tourism, Fernando Olivera Rocha.
Two ancient stone piles and cave paintings were recently discovered in that area of the state. The paintings portrait very interesting antorpomorphic and zoomorphic images, taking into account that the paintings are in considerable good condition, experts have determined to study them closely.
“The National Institute of Anthropology and History (Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia, INAH) is currently conducting several studies on the site in order to preserve this important historical heritage. And we are considering to open the place to the public in July, as a new cultural tourism attraction”, explained Olivera Rocha.
The site is located approximately 50 miles north of San Miguel de Allende, right next to Mineral de Pozos, a magical and cozy town, where visitors can find a wide array of recreational activities, tours in mines, regional gastronomy as well as the Chichimecas Mission Tour, among other attractions.
